Electronic logbook will be applied in Vietnam fishing activities

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, recording and submitting the catch log-book is a mandatory procedure in seafood traceability, contributing to removing the European Commission’s yellow card of IUU. Accordingly, a properly recorded fishing log will ensure the traceability of caught seafood.

Mr. Hung said that electronic logging is being piloted in some localities. Accordingly, fishermen will not have to take notes, but just press a button on smartphones that have installed this software, making it more convenient for fishermen to log their catches and also easy to manipulate.

Besides, when entering the fishing port, the fishing data of the fishermen will be quickly updated to the local and central databases for easy control.

Mr. Hung said that instead of using paper copies that are both difficult to store and difficult to control, using this software is convenient and easy to control. After piloting, it will be evaluated and replicated in localities to guide fishermen. It will first apply to tuna fishing in 3 provinces and cities, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, and then expand to other localities.
